Brand Spotlight: MCM

I bet each of us can recognize MCM. The familiarity can be attributed to its signature design which features a spread of MCM logos and diamonds on leather. It is certainly eye-catching, and definitely creates a statement.

As obvious in its name, Mode Creation Munich was originally established in Munich, Germany by Michael Cromer in 1975; until it moved to South Korea to be headed by now-CEO and chairwoman, Kim Sungjoo. The luxury brand, since then, had become a staple fashion brand for many Korean entertainers. Its popularity within the nation can even match the reputation of Gucci and Louis Vuitton – and it eventually spread to several more countries. At the moment, it has offices in eight countries including Switzerland. Also, there are seventy branches worldwide.

With its designs mainly produced by Michael Michalsky, MCM basically features posh leather goods, apparels, and shoes. The main objective of every creation is to exemplify sophistication and elegance, as each item flaunts the ideal combination of German functionality and tradition.

As said, it is the pattern MCM uses on its products which catches people’s attentions. If you look closely, it is a combination of the word ‘MCM’, laurel leaves which form a ribbon, and diamonds. The laurel leaves is the ‘Greek symbol of victory and achievement with honor’. The diamonds indicates ‘value, strength, and durability without compromise in beauty.’ Occasionally, the MCM lion appears and it pays homage to Henry the Lion, the father of the brand’s birthplace.

MCM originally designs luxury handbags, apparels and shoes. But it has recently ventured into the world of vintage briefcases and hats. Furthermore, it also has designs which shy away from its typical pattern.

So who are the famous users of MCM within the KPOP industry?

2PM's Junsu
JYJ's Park Yoochun

SNSD's Seohyun

B2ST's Kikwang
and how to can we forget...

EXO's Lay

EXO's Luhan
